Marshall’s Launches Ground Breaking Carbon Calculator for Hard Landscapes.

Marshalls has launched a carbon calculator allowing you to measure the CO_ impact of different Marshalls hard landscaping products, to help you to offset your hard landscaping with soft planting with the aim of creating a more carbon neutral garden. It has been launched as part of Marshalls for Sustainable Landscapes, a major campaign to educate consumers, trade and industry about the issues of sustainable hard landscaping.

The carbon calculator works asks the quantity of each product you wish to use and then instantly gives a figure for the CO_ impact. Once you know the impact in tonnes of CO_, you can take action such as planting trees to ‘offset’ it. The calculator recommends how many trees should be planted in order to give the desired offset, as well as giving links to organisations that specialise in providing customer offsets.

Marshalls’ carbon calculator has been specially developed using product life cycle information that has been independently verified. This means that all of the CO_, a greenhouse gas everyone’s trying to reduce, emitted during production of raw materials, manufacture and transportation of the product has been carefully measured and minimised.

Says Chris Harrop, Group Marketing Director at Marshalls: “The carbon calculator allows us to help customers balance the impact of their choices in the garden. We’re keen to provide hard landscaping as part of a sustainable garden, by providing the information in a way that’s accessible for our customers.”

The carbon calculator can be found on the Marshalls for Sustainable Landscapes website, which contains detailed information about the all aspects of this large-scale sustainability programme. Visit www.marshalls.co.uk/sustainability for more information.
