GARDENERS wanting to ''go green'' on a budget are making the most of a new value rubber landscape mulch which doesn''t cost the earth. Recycling enthusiasts Dunweedin'' have launched a ''value'' range of its unique rubber landscape chippings, which still do the job of its premium range but cost a third of the price.
Using a water-based dye and 100 per cent recycled car tyres Dunweedin'' has slashed its production costs to produce a basic version of its popular garden mulch. But the product still has the same benefits, which allows it to outlive bark chippings by ten years.
Other benefits include:
• Resists compacting
• Cost effective
• Fade and stain resistant
• Completely non-toxic
• Will not rot or blow away
• Citrus scent deters cats and dogs
• Dries quickly
• Resists freezing
The rubber bark for mulching comes in a rich chestnut colour and allows gardeners to create an outdoor haven, which can be enjoyed all year round. The durable chippings can be used to create attractive boarders, pathways and planters but is also easy to lay, is soft underfoot and to touch, meaning there is more time to love your garden rather than just working in it.
Dunweedin'' Managing Director, Bob Jones, explained: "We have made a significant investment in this product, spending ten''s of thousands of pounds in technology that allows us to re-use discarded car tyres."
Dunweedin'' has also developed a value version of its playground chippings, which is perfect for adding extra bounce to lively play areas at home and school, so children can play out all year.
