Recorded over several tour dates before Harvest Moon was released, Dreamin’ Man Live ’92 presents that album’s collection of songs through solo, acoustic performances. Young’s treatments move between guitar and organ, distilling the songs down to their bare, emotional bones.

Dreamin’ Man Live ’92 gives us the songs from Harvest Moon in a format perhaps closer to that in which they were born. Well worth a listen.

There is a poignancy to some of the Kinks’ most enduring songs, evidenced in ‘See My Friends’ and ‘Celluloid Heroes’ that lends itself to the choral treatment. At 65, Davies remains in very good voice, and here brings us a newly recorded collection of classics rearranged for London’s Crouch End Festival Chorus. While the urgent passion of ‘You Really Got Me’ might not be best served by a churchlike choir, ballads such as ‘Waterloo Sunset’ work beautifully.
